# Connect an account

> Invite a Stora account to connect to your developer company and approve access to manage API credentials.

Connect a Stora account to your developer company when you need to manage that account's API credentials and webhook endpoints in the [Developer Portal](https://developer.stora.co).

<Note>
  This connection is for accounts you work with directly. If you build a partner app that operators authorise themselves, follow [Building a partner integration](/2025-09/guides/partner-integrations) instead.
</Note>

## Prerequisites

You need:

* A Developer Portal account with an admin role in your developer company to generate the invitation link.
* A Stora account with Public API access.
* A Stora staff member with the **Accept developer company connections** permission to approve the connection.

You can approve the connection yourself if you have the required access to both accounts. Otherwise, share the invitation with the appropriate Stora staff member.

<Tip>
  To explore the API without real account data, [create a test operator](/2025-09/guides/developer-portal#testing--looking-around) first. You do not need an invitation to a real Stora account to start testing.
</Tip>

## Connect a Stora account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open connected accounts">
    Sign in to [`developer.stora.co`](https://developer.stora.co). If you are creating your Developer Portal account, choose **Account integration** as your purpose. Open **Connected accounts**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Generate an invitation link">
    Click **Invite account**, then **Generate invitation link**. Copy the link. If a link already exists, you can copy that link instead.

    Share it directly with the Stora staff member who will approve access. Stora does not email the invitation for you. Share it only with someone you already work with.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve the connection in Stora">
    The staff member opens the link and signs in to Stora. If they belong to multiple operator accounts, they select the account to connect.

    They review the developer company name, confirm the acknowledgement that they know and trust your company, and click **Approve connection**.

    If the account does not have Public API access, it must be upgraded before the connection can be approved.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the connected account">
    Return to **Connected accounts** in the Developer Portal. Open the account with an **Active** connection to manage its **Access tokens**, **OAuth clients**, and webhook endpoints.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Approval allows your developer company to create API credentials and webhook endpoints for the Stora account. Credentials can use any Public API scopes available to that account. Only approve a company you trust, with any required commercial or data-processing agreements in place.
</Warning>

## Manage invitation links

In **Connected accounts**, a developer-company admin can click **Invite account** to copy the current invitation link, regenerate it, or revoke it. Regenerating or revoking the link invalidates the previous link. Existing account connections are not affected.

The invitation link belongs to your developer company, not to an individual Stora account. To end an existing connection, see [Manage access](/2025-09/guides/manage-account-access#terminate-an-account-connection).

## Troubleshoot a connection

| Problem | What to check |
| - | - |
| You cannot generate an invitation | Ask an admin in your developer company to generate the link. |
| The invitation link no longer works | Ask the developer company for its current link. The previous link may have been regenerated or revoked. |
| The staff member cannot approve the connection | Check their **Accept developer company connections** permission and that they have an active membership in the Stora account. |
| The account shows Public API unavailable | The account needs Public API access before it can approve a connection or manage credentials. |
| The connection is revoked | Ask an authorised Stora staff member to accept the invitation again. This restores developer management of the existing credentials, but does not automatically enable disabled credentials. |

## Next steps

* [API credentials](/2025-09/guides/managed-account-authentication) — choose Access Tokens or OAuth Clients and make authenticated requests.
* [Manage access](/2025-09/guides/manage-account-access) — manage scopes, credential expiry, and connection termination.
